(Also works with many 33.6 modems)
When the "Phone number" window appears, leave the phone number blank and go to the "Connect using" field below. Click on the down arrow and choose "Direct to COM x" where "x" is the com port your modem is using, then click the 'OK'. When the "Port Settings" window appears, go to the "Bits per second" field and click on the down arrow and choose "57600", then click the 'OK' button. You should now see a blank window with a cursor.
Type ATZ and press the 'Enter' key, the word "OK" should appear.
Type AT&FDT281-791-1111 and press the 'Enter'. Your computer should now dial our server, connect and prompt you for a "Login" name. Type in your Village Online username and press the 'Enter' key. Type in your Village Online password when prompted and press the 'Enter' key.
After approximately 20 seconds, select the 'Call' menu, and click the 'Disconnect' option from the top of your HyperTerminal window.
Now type AT&V1 and press the 'Enter' key. You should now see information on your last modem connection displayed in the window.
Look for the Line Quality number. Typically a number between 0 - 20 is best on a 56K modem, much higher then 30 and you will probably not get a reliable 56K connection.
